Multivitamins

Food supplements have become very popular during the past few years. A lot of people take a multivitamins during illnesses or stressful times, we are careful to take enough calcium and other minerals and who has not heard of the beneficial effects of Omega fatty acids? Naturally, food supplements are not miracle products. But when they are used in a sensible way, they may just give your health that nice little boost that you sometimes need. And that goes not only for humans, but for animals as well………

One may assume that every complete animal food contains enough vitamins, minerals and trace elements to meet the dietary needs of the average animal. But during illnesses, during  recovery from an illness or operation or for animals that sport/work a lot a multivitamin can be very beneficial.

In need of extra nutrients

A multivitamin can very well be used to prevent a vitamin deficiency. And although “vitamin sceptics” claim the opposite: a well balanced multivitamin cannot cause a harmful vitamin overdose. On the other hand, one can imagine a lot of situations in which the body really requires an extra amount of vitamins and antioxidants. During an illness, organs or tissues tend to be affected by inflammation or infection. During these processes, free radicals are produced. These free radicals can harm the tissue even more, if they are not neutralized. The body uses antioxidants to disable these free radicals. In order for an organ or tissue to recover, it needs an increased amount of nutrients, like amino acids, carbohydrates and fat, but also vitamins and antioxidants. A multivitamin can be very helpful in cases like these.

Studies in humans have shown that the absorption of vitamins from the intestines decreases in old age. In addition to this, the body uses the absorbed vitamins less efficiently. This is why humans need an increasing amount of vitamins and minerals as they age. One may assume that this goes for animals as well. A multivitamin, suitable for “senior” pets, may give them just “that little extra something” that is important for a happy and active life!

And finally, there are a lot of animals that work or sport intensively; police dogs, dressage horses, animals that compete in cat- or dog shows, dogs that do agility, etc., etc. These animals are in need of a sufficient amount of nutrients and antioxidants. These animals can benefit from a multivitamin too!

A suitable multivitamin for every pet!

There are a lot of multivitamins on the market, in a lot of different dosage forms: chewable tablets, soft chews, powders or liquid products. There is a suitable multivitamin for every pet!
